Rolls-Royce Limited was created in 1904 when Sir Henry Royce struck a deal with Charles Rolls. Sir Henry Royce, famous for his first patent the bayonet lamp socket, was renowned for his attention to detail and pursuit of perfection set out to build the best cars in the world. Charles Rolls owned his first car whilst an undergraduate at Cambridge and began racing. In order to fund his passion he set up a car dealership in Fulham. His search for a reliable English car lead to his introduction to Sir Henry Royce, and the world famous name was created.
Launched in 1907 the Silver Ghost completed a 14,371 mile virtually non-stop run leading to ‘the best car in world’ legend. Since then Rolls-Royce cars have been chosen by royalty, actors and pop stars, and the name is synonymous with the finest things and luxury.
Today the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars headquarters are at Goodwood in the Sussex Downs. Inspired by their founders aims in 1903 Rolls-Royce continues to develop and build the most technologically advanced Rolls-Royce Motors today.
