Glorious sunshine beamed down on the Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend, as a record breaking crowd of motor enthusiasts travelled to Sussex for a truly exceptional event. The festival was one of special significance to Classic Additions as, not only was it the 21st birthday of the festival itself, it was also Classic Additions’ 21st time exhibiting at the world famous show – making us one of the proud few companies that have been involved in the Goodwood Festival of Speed since its conception.
Numerous new cars were given their first public appearances, including the fastest ever Range Rover, the incredible Jaguar F-Type and the elegantly redesigned Mercedes CLS. Of special note to Classic Additions was the appearance of the new and much discussed Ford Focus ST from underneath one of our custom made reveal car covers. Our Sales Director Dean also masterminded the creation of the slide slippers that had people queuing up at the Ford stand to take an exciting whizz down the helter-skelter promoting the upcoming Ford Mustang, to be released in 2015.
A huge stir was also caused by this year’s central display; a 90 metre long tribute to Mercedes Benz that displayed a striking contrast between the classic and the current.
The Goodwood Hill Climb doled out excitement and disappointment in equal doses. Former Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy escaped unscathed from a collision with the fencing at the Molecomb corner (although his Nissan GT-R Nismo was not quite so lucky!), however the mood of the crowd was soon lifted by a deafening procession of turbocharged F1 cars from the 1960s-1980s, driven by some true racing greats.
The Classic Additions stand was as busy as ever, with our super soft, stretchy car covers remaining an incredibly popular product. The end of July will see us at the Silverstone Classic, and after such an incredible Goodwood we can’t wait to see what that will bring!
